Patna : World No 71 Soo Tech Zhi, 24, Malaysia, stunned top seed Shi Yu Qi, 23, China,  in straight games in the first round of Ecogreen Syed Modi International Badminton Championships, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 event, at Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium, Lucknow, UP, India, on November 27, 2019. But, 3rd seed Kidambi Srikanth, India, entered the second round beating World No 68 Vladimir Malkov, Russia, in 1st round.

Soo Tech Zhi beat World No 7 Shi Yu Qi 25-23, 21-17 in 62 minutes in first round in a massive upset in the tournament. Soo won 46 rallies in the match to 40 by Yu Qi, the winner of 2018 All England Open Championship title. Soo won 5 consecutive points in the match to 4 by the Chinese. Soo now leads Yu Qi 2-0 Head to Head.

World No 12 Srikanth beat Vladimir Malkov in straight games 21-12, 21-11 in 36 minutes in first round. Srikanth won 42 rallies in the match to 23 by the Russian. Srikanth won 6 consecutive points in the match to 2 by Malkov. It was first meeting between the two players.

World No 23 Parupalli Kashyap, 33, India, and World No 40 Lakshya Sen, 18, India, entered the second round through walkovers.
