Pagna : Sri Lanka (SL), who had scored just 135 in their first innings, were 156/2 in their 2nd innings at stumps on Day 3 in the 1st test against England at Galle International Stadium, Galle, SL, on January 16, 2021, with opener Lahiru Thirimanne unbeaten on 76 in 189 balls 6 fours and spinner Lasith Embuldeniya yet to open his account. England lead by 130 runs.

Opener Kusal Perera fell to medium fast bowler Sam Curran for 62 in 109 balls with 5 fours and 1 six. Kusal Perera and Thirimanne added 101 runs for the first wicket. Kusal Mendis fell to spinner Jack Leach for 15 in 65 balls with 1 fours.

Earlier resuming at their overnight score of 320/4, England were all out for 421 in their first innings with captain Joe Root scoring 228 in 321 balls with 18 fours and 1 six.Root, his 4th double century in tests,  and Jos Buttler (wk) added 68 runs for the 5th wicket. Buttler score 30 runs. For SL, off spinner Dilruwan Perera, 38,  took 4/109 while leg spinner Lasith Embuldeniya, 24, took 3/176.
