Patna : Defending Champion and World Number 2 Women Badminton player P V Sindhu, 22, was stunned by a Chinese qualifier Gao Fangjie, 17, in the quarter final of China Open Super Series Premier at Fuzhou, China, on November 17, 2017, ending India’s campaign at the event. Gao Fangjie, the World Number 89, defeated her famous rival in straight sets 21-11, 21-10 in just 37 minutes. Sindhu could not put up a fight. It was the first meeting between Sindhu and Fangjie.
World Number 11 Saina Nehwal, India, had lost in the second round on November 16. In the Men’s section, H S Pranoy, India, the World Number 10, also lost in the second round on November 16.
