Ara : Bihar Diwas was celebrated in Bhojpur district at Veer Kuer Singh Stadium, Ramana Maidan, Ara, on arch 22, 2017, with much fanfare. The function was organized by Bhojpur district administration.

Though the district administration had invited all the MLAs, MLCs, MP and others but only CPI(ML) MLA from Tarari Sudama Prasad, MLC Radha Charan Sah, RJD MLAs Md Nawaz Alam of Ara, Prabhunath Prasad of Agiaw, Ram Vishun Singh Lohia of Jagdishpur, Arun Kumar of Sandesh, District Board Chairman, Phulwanti Devi and Mayor, Ara Municipal Corporation, Sunil Kumar participated. BJP MP from Ara Raj Kumar Singh, MLCs Ran Vijay Singh, Sanjeev Shyam Singh and Awadhesh Narayan Singh, Chairman, Bihar Legislative Council, and the RJD MLA from Barhara Saroj Yadav were conspicuous by their absence.

Bhojpur DM Birendra Prasad Yadav and the MLAs Md Nawaz Alam, Prabhunath Prasad and Sudama Prasad inaugurated the function jointly by lighting the ceremonial candle as the chief guest of the function Vijay Prakash, Labour Resource Department and minister incharge Bhojpur district did not turn up. They also released balloons in the air. The students of Dr Nemi Chand Shastri Girls High School sang a welcome note. Welcoming the guests, ADM Surendra Kumar said Bhojpur is a historical district famous worldwide and highlighted the achievements of government particularly the welfare schemes of the government. He said Bhojpur district is now getting power for 24 hours daily and added that it will soon be declared Open Defecation Free (ODF).

Earlier, at least 5,000 boys and girls of different schools took out a ‘prabhat pheri’ on March 22 morning from Ramana Maidan that passed through the main thoroughfares of the town. DM Birendra Prasad Yadav flagged off the ‘Prabhat Pheri’.

Banks, DRDA, Agriculture department, district administration, Horticulture, ICDS, Social Security, Ara Municipal Corporation, District Welfare Department, District Education Department, Red Cross, Jeevika, Mahila Helpline and  NGOs, Prabhat Creative Society, Sudha Dairy, Satya Vridh Ashram, Police have set up their stalls at the venue. Archery, quiz, drawing and painting competitions were also organized and prizes were given to the successful participants.

Apart from wrestling competition for men, a women wrestling competition was organized for the first time in Bhojpur district which turned out to be a big draw. The MLAs, MLC, DM, SP and other officials along with thousands of people watched the wrestling competition. MLA from Sandesh Arun Kumar gave award to the wrestlers. All the government buildings and colleges were decorated with blue lights. A colourful, cultural programme, kavi sammelan and mushaira were also organized.
