Jamui: Seven  persons travelling by a tractor died on the spot and over a dozen injured in Jamui district in a major road accident on November 11 evening. Police said, about two dozen persons, all residents of a small village Santhu under Town Police station, Jamui, had gone to offer chadar on a mazar on a hill near Aliganj in the same district, about 45 km away from Jamui district headquarters besides performing `Mundan’ ceremony of a few children by a tractor on November 11.

After performing the function at the alter of  Uri Baba, the legendary saint there, they were returning the same evening. But a pick-up van coming from opposite direction collided with the tractor resulting in a major  accident. Seven persons on the tractor died on the spot while the rest were injured.

Police said that the bodies had been sent to Jamui sadar hospital for post-mortem while the injured have been admitted there for treatment. Two of the injured were referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital in view of their serious condition. Jamui SP Jayant Kant said that the  families of the bereaved will be paid Rs 4 lakh each by the government as compensation.
