Sasaram : Sheela Devi, daughter of a retired CRPF personnel Dadan Lal of village Kant under Brahmpur police station in Buxar district, was poisoned to death allegedly by her in-laws at Dawath Bazaar under Dawath police station in Rohtas district around midnight on July 8, 2017, for dowry. Police brought the body over to Sasaram Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. An FIR has been lodged with Dawath police station against three persons including her husband but no arrest has so far been made in this regard.

SHO, Dawath Police Station, Alok Kumar, said that Sheela Devi, daughter of a retired CRPF personnel Dadan Lal, was married to Rajesh Kumar, a BSF personnel and son of Suresh Kumar of village Dawath in Rohtas district in 2009 and had two sons and three daughters. Ever since her marriage, her husband and the in-laws tortured her for more dowry. Meanwhile, she cleared the TET examination in 2012-2013 and was appointed a teacher in middle school at Brahmpur in Buxar district. But, her husband and in-laws still insisted for more dowry.

Rajesh Kumar came to his native village on leave a week ago and demanded Rs 1 lakh for the construction of home and took his wife to Dawath five days ago. When his demand was not fulfilled, he allegedly poisoned his wife to death around midnight on July 8. The SHO said a named FIR has been lodged on the statement of deceased’s father against three persons.
