Kumar Rajiv Nayan
Sasaram : District and Sessions Judge, Sasaram, Prabhunath Singh, on June 21, 2017, convicted five naxals in the Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Rohtas, Sanjay Singh, murder case. They are: Sudama Oraon, Lalan Singh Kharwar, Nirala Yadav, Nitish Yadav and Ram Bachan Yadav. The court found them guilty of murder of the DFO under section 302, 323, 148, 149 IPC, and section 20 of POTA and Arms Act 27.
The naxalites had kidnapped DFO Sanjay Singh from Rihal located on the Kaimur hills on February 15, 2002, and later shot him dead. Five persons: Nirala Yadav, Ram Bachan Yadav, Nitish Yadav, Sudama Oraon and Lalan Singh Kharwar were made named accused in the case.
The government had handed over investigation of the case to the CBI and its advocate from New Delhi had pleaded for the CBI while Shahnawaz Ahmad was the defence lawyer. The CBI had already given its written statement in the court.
