Patna : Defending champion Sameer Verma,24, India, retained his men’s single title at Syed Modi International Badminton Championship, an HSBC BWF World Tour 300 event, at Lucknow, India, on November 25, 2018, beating World No 36 Lu Guanzu, 22, China, in the final in three-games.

World No 16 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings Sameer Verma beat Guangzu in a three-game thriller 16-21, 21-19, 21-14 in 70 minutes to win the men’s singles title at Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on November 25. Sameer won 58 rallies in the match to 54 by Guangzu. He won 6 consecutive points during the match to 7 by Guangzu. Both the players created three break points each in the match. Sameer and Guangzu are now locked 1-1 head to head.
