Saharsa : Saharsa DM Vinod Singh Gunjiyal on April 17, 2017, asked acting SP Subodh Kumar Biswas whether he and Sadar SDO need to move on roads to improve law and order in the district. DM Gunjiyal put this poser before acting SP Biswas during his meeting with an NDA delegation headed by Chhatapur MLA Niraj Kumar Babloo.

The NDA delegation led by Babloo and comprising former MLAs Kishore Kumar Munna, Sanjiv Kumar Jha and Alok Ranjan and Saharsa district BJP president Niraj Gupta met the DM to express their serious concern over the spurt in crime in the district after the NDA workers of Saharsa started an agitation to protest continued deterioration in law and order in the district. The NDA delegation also submitted a memorandum to the DM demanding immediate arrest of killers of an engineer of LG company Amit Ranjan alias Nilesh, a compensation of Rs 20 lakh to his family, a job to his kin, and Rs 25 lakh from the company. Amit Ranjan was shot dead on April 16, 2017, night.

The NDA delegation also demanded suspension of SHO, Sonbersa Raj police station, and legal action against him. It also demanded immediate transfer of Saharsa SP and DSP and probe into their assets. The NDA delegation also demanded immediate arrest of accused in Ranjit Kumar ( Mahua Bazaar), Ajay Kumar Singh (Baruari) and Niraj Kumar Singh ( Bardaha) murder cases.

DM Munjiyal assured the NDA delegation of appropriate action. The DM informed the delegation that the SHO of Sonbersa Raj police station had been removed and sent to policeline while a two-member team comprising SDO and SDPO would inquire into the murder of LG company engineer Amit Ranjan, who would also get a compensation amount. The DM also said that a dependent of the slain engineer would also get a government job depending on his/ her qualification. The NDA has threatened to intensify the on going agitation if the law and order does not improve in 15 days.
