Patna : President of India Pranab Mukherji on April 17, 2017, felicitated some freedom fighters at a function organised at Patna to mark the centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagrah. But, the NDA boycotted Bihar government’s programme to honour freedom fighter after senior BJP leader and union home minister Rajnath Singh decided not to attend it.
The BJP claimed that the union home minister had abstained from the programme as RJD chief Lalu Prasad, a fodder scam convict, had been invited to share dais with the President of India. Former Bihar BJP chief Mangal Pandey said that Union home minister Rajnath Singh was hurt as the state government was trying to politicise the programme.
