SA beat SL in Super Over in 1st T20I

Patna : South Africa (SA) beat Sri Lanka (SL) in the 1st T20I in the Super Over eliminator at Newlands, Cape Town, South Africa, on March 19, 2019, late night, to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series. David Miller, South Africa, was named Player of the Match. As both the teams had scored 134 runs in 20 overs, the match into the Super Over eliminator. South Africa had won the toss but opted to bowl.

Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 134/7 in 20 overs with Kamindu Mendis scoring 41 in 29 balls with 3 four and 2 sixes and  Thisara Perera 19 in 21 balls with a six. Kusal Mendis fell to fast bowler Kagiso Rabada for zero while opener and wicketkeeper Niroshan Dickwella fell to fast bowler Dale Steyn for zero. Opener Avishka Fernando and Angelo Perera scored 16 each while Dhananjaya de Silva made 14. For South Africa, fast medium bowler Andile Phehlukwayo, 23, took 3/25 in 4 overs.

Chasing a target of 135, South Africa too scored 134/8 in 20 overs with David Miller (wk) scoring 41 in 23 balls with 5 fours and a six while Rassie van der Dussen scored 34 in 30 balls with a four and a six. Captain Faf du Plessis scored 21 in 23 balls with 2 fours and a six while opener Quinton de Kock scored 13 with 2 fours. For Sri Lanka, captain Lasith Malinga took 2/11 in 4 overs.

In the Super Over bowled by Lasith Mailnga, South Africa scored 14 runs with David Miller hitting a six and a four. In reply, Sri Lanka scored just 5 including 2 wides in the super over bowled by spinner Imran Tahir. Avishka Fernando was dropped twice in the Super Over. SA won by 9 runs in Super Over.

South Africa had won the five-match ODI series 5-0.
