Patna : South Africa (SA) were 317/4 in their first innings at stumps o n Day 2 in the 1st test against Sri Lanka (SL) at SuperSport Park, Centurion, SA, on December 27, 2020, night, as openers Dean Elgar and Aiden Markram added 141 runs for the first wicket. SA scored at a terribly slow pace from 65th to 72nd over.

Faf du Plessis and Temba Bavuma were unbeaten on 55 and 41 runs respectively at stumps on Day 2. Du Plessis and Bavuma has so far added 97 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 5th wicket. SA, however, still 79 runs.

Aiden Markram fell to medium fast bowler Vishwa Fernando for 68 in 94 balls with 14 fours making it 141/1. Rassie van der Dussen fell to fast bowler Lahiru Kumara for 15 making it 200/2. Dean Elgar fell to medium fast bowler Dasun Shanaka at the same score for 95 in 130 balls with 16 fours and it was  200/3. Captain Quinton de Kock fell to spinner Wanindu Hasaranga for 18 i n 11 balls with and it was 220/4.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 340/6, SL were all out for 396 in 96 overs in first session of play on Day 2  with batting all-rounder Dasun Shanaka scoring an unbeaten 66 in 87 balls with 3 fours and 5 sixes. Medium fast bowler Lutho Siipamla took 4/76 while medium fast bowler Wiaan Mudler took 3/69.
