Patna : Set a target of 395, South Africa were 11/1 after 9 overs at stumps on Day 4 in their second innings in the 1st Test against India at Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, on October 5, 2019, with opener Aiden Markram batting on 3 and Theunis de Bruyn batting on 5. Opener Dean Elgar, who had scored 160 in 1st innings, fell to spinner Ravindra Jadeja for 2. SA need to score 384 runs on Day 5 to win this match.

Earlier, India declared their second innings at 324/4 with opener Rohit Sharma scoring 127 in 149 balls with 10 fours and 7 sixes becoming the first ever opener on debut to score century in both the innings of a test. Rohit, the Hit-Man, had scored 176 in 244 balls with 23 fours and 6 sixes in the first innings. Cheteswar Pujara, who had scored just 6 runs in the first innings, scored 81 in 148 balls with 13 fours and 2 sixes in second innings. Opener Mayank Agarwal, who had scored 215 with 23 fours and 6 sixes in first innings, fell to spinner Keshav Maharaj for just 7 in second making it 21/1.

Pujara fell to pacer Vernon Philander making it 190/2. Rohit and Pujara added 169 runs for the 2nd wicket. Rohit fellĀ  (stumped) to Maharaj making it 239/3. Incidentally, Rohit was also stumped in the first innings. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who had scored an unbeaten 30 in first innings besides taking two wickets, scored 40 in 32 balls in second innings with 3 sixes. He fell to fast bowler Kagiso Rabada making it 286/4.

Captain Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 31 in 25 balls with 3 fours and a six while Ajinkya Rahane remained unbeaten on 27 in 17 balls with 4 fours and a six.
