Dhanbad ( Jharkhand): In view of the upcoming festival season when thousands of passengers working in metros return home with their hard earned  money and often become soft targets of  criminals,  Dhanbad  Railway protection force (RPF)  has  initiated  several foolproof  steps to provide security to passengers  which include round the clock patrolling, videography of general compartment and cultivating intelligence network  on major railway stations falling under Dhanbad division of the East Central Railways (ECR).

Seeing the massive  rush in more than two dozen trains  passing or originating fromDhanbad  besides over crowding in general compartments, Railway protection Force(RPF) led by commandant A N Jha and its inspector B.N Mishra has started  a massive drive  for foolproof  security on trains passing through Dhanbad division,  where  reports of  robbery, luggage lifting  from moving trains and railway platforms especially during night have been reported.

After arrest of  six criminals of ‘drug and loot gang’  arrested from Dhanbad few  weeks ago along with drug laced biscuits  and sleeping tablets, RPF men can be seen with walkie talkie in their  hands addressing  passengers especially those in general compartment not to take any eatables from unknown persons despite their repeated pleas including ‘Prasad’ of religious places. “Cops have been directed to closely watch the people who cultivate contacts  with travellers and loot their belongings  or on several occasions  slip away with belongings  when passengers are  at sleep,”  said the commandant. Not only this RPF men are even going for regular videography and photography of  passengers and at times even sniffer dogs are pressed into service.

Dhanbad Railway Protection Force (RPF) commandant has directed his juniors to remain alert to nab anti-social elements for which he has  developed intelligence networking on station premises in form of coolies, stall vendors, auto and taxi drivers who cater RPF with vital information  whenever they see suspicious faces. “The coolies, taxi drivers  who park their vehicles on station  premise and staff of  foodstalls on several stations falling under Dhanbad division railway zone give us information about  suspicious people seen wandering on railway platforms without luggage or sleeping on benches  posing like bonafide passengers and escape with luggage  of passengers after they sleep,” said RPF inspector B.N Mishra.

RPF  commandant and his junior officers  can  be   seen  educating passengers of all prominent trains requesting them not  to get  very close with unknown persons. RPF deputy commandant A N Jha said he and his men keep close eyes on trains especially those heading for Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai, Chennai  and New Delhi on which business community  members or  shop keepers travel with cash and precious items. The commandant  has also directed  patrolling RPF cops  to keep close eyes on criminals operating  between Mughalsarai –  Gaya – Dhanbad  area and loot passengers after drugging them.

RPF inspector B N Mishra  stated  that though RPF cops have  given good results yet direction has been given to nab criminals, eve teasers  and train robbers  and members of ‘drug and loot’ gangs .
