Giridih: Giridih district administration is planning to declare 55 villages as Open Defecation Free (ODF) a day before Raksha bandhan on August 17.  The district authorities would also felicitate about 50 local youngsters, who have played vital role in motivating people and  constructed toilets at their sisters’ home on the occasion. Giridih had topped in the state by achieving 160% of the target given to it for toilet constructions in the last financial year.
Giridih Deputy Commissioner (DC) Umashankar Singh said, “Apart from other changes in our style of funtioning, we have checked the role of middlemen who used harass the people. Instead, we have asked the people to get involved directly and construct toilet for themselves from the government fund under the Swachha Bharat Mission.” He added that this time the district administration had also planned to promote eco-sanitary toilets for particular areas. On June 5, 2016, the district administration had declared 98 villages of Naxal-hit Giridih district as ODF.
