Railway minister inaugurates WiFi facility at Patna Jn

Patna : Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu  inaugurated  WiFi facility at Patna Junction  under Danapur division  of East Central Railway ( ECR )  through  video conferencing  on Friday.  Patna Junction has thus become the first station in Bihar to have this facility .

Prabhu announced  that  Bhaglapur , Hajipur, Darbhanga  and Muzaffarpur  will be other stations in Bihar to get WiFi  facility  by the end of December 2016.  Railways  would ensure proper functioning of WiFi at all  stations  where this facility has been provided , he said adding Ranchi and Vishakhapatnam are also  being  provided with WiFi facility .

According to ECR CPRO  Arvind  Rajak , Rail Tel has completed Patna Junction WiFi  service. Railways has been linked to Google for better connectivity round the clock  at Patna Junction  for the benefit of users . There are 67 access points at Patna Junction for the users and as many as 1,000 users  can avail this facility at a time at the junction, he said . WiFi facility at Patna Junction is now  available  round the clock  on each platform  of the station . It is  available for the users up to 20 minutes free of cost  after which the users will  have to pay  nominal charges . Users at Patna Junction can avail the facility of WiFi after getting  password from railways, Rajak said.

 Railway Board had earlier announced that  WiFi facility  would be provided at three major stations  including Patna junction,  Mughalsarai  and Gaya  in the first phase  of the proposed plan of railways . This facility  will cater to the needs of tech savvy  passengers travelling  from these stations.   According to sources ,  Rail Tel  is carrying  out  WiFi  project  across the country. Railways  is bound to provide this facility under the  improved  passenger  amenities  plan  at all class A1 and A stations  under  the zone.  Railways has already initiated  steps  to modernize  functioning of class A 1 and A class stations in each zonal railways in the country, sources said .   

 While Howrah – New Delhi Rajdhani Express  has been provided  WiFi facility , Patna – New Delhi Rajdhani Express  is also likely to get this facility soon.  Indian Space   Research Organisation ( Isro)    has worked details to execute the ambitious plan of railways  phasewise ,  sources  said .
