Rafael Nadal crushes Victor Estrella Burgos in AO Ist round

Patna : World Number 1 Rafael Nadal, 31, Spain, on January 15, 2018, evening, started his  Australian Open (AO) Championship campaign by crushing World Number 79 Victor Estrella Burgos, 37, of Dominican Republic, 6-1,6-1, 6-1, in 94 minutes in the first round allaying doubts over his fitness. Obviously, his knees are fine. He will face Leonardo Mayer, 30, Argentina, in the second round. Mayer is ranked 52 in the latest ATP rankings. Rafael Nadal had lost to Roger Federer in the final of AO 2017.

World Number 3 Grigor Dimitrov, 26, Bulgaria, defeated qualifier Dennis Novak, 24, Austria,  6-3, 6-2, 6-1, in the first round in 98 minutes. He will meet another qualifier in the second round. Novak is ranked 226 in the ATP rankings.

World Number 78 player Matthew Ebden, Australia, upset 16th seed John Isner 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3 in four sets in the first round. Isner made 33 unforced errors compared to 13 by Ebden. Australian Nick Kyrgios, the Men’s 17th seed, also sailed into the second round.
