Patna : World No 4 in ATP rankings and 2009 US Open champion Juan Martin del Porto, 30, Argentina, and qualifier and World No 55 Dusan Lajovic, 28, Serbia, entered the quarter-finals of China Open 2018, an ATP World Tour 500 event, at Beijing on October 3, 2018.
Top seed del Porto beat World No 24 Karen Kachanov, 22, Russia, 6-4, 7-6 in the Round of 16 to enter the QF of the tournament. Both the players are 6’6″. With this win, del Porto has also sealed a berth in the ATP World Tour finals in London, UK.
Qualifier Lajovic stunned World No 8 and winner of ATP World Tour finals in 2017 Grigor Dimitrov, 27, Bulgaria, in a three-set thriller 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the Round of 16 in a massive upset in the tournament. Dimitrov was seeded third in the tournament. Lajovic had defeated Delpo in ATP Madrid Open in May 2018.
World No 16 Kyle Edmund, 23, UK, defeated qualifier and World No 58 Matteo Berrettini, 22, Italy, in a three-set encounter 7-5, 6-7, 7-5 in the Round of 16 to enter the QF. Edmund will play Lajovic in the QF.
World No 36 Filip Krajinovic, 26, Serbia, defeated World No 71 and wild card Feliciano Lopez, 37, Spain, in straight sets 7-6, 6-3 to enter the QF of the event.
