Bettiah : Police destroyed around three dozen liquor brewing units during a 12 raid conducted at Garbhuya and Lalganj villages under Sirsia Police Outpost (OP) under Chanpatia block in West Champaran district. The raid started on August 5, 2018, evening, and continued till August 6  morning.
Police also arrested three persons : Yogendra Sah, Mahendra Sah, and Mukesh Soni, a jaggery trader, in this connection while Baidyanath Mahto, Lalu Mahto, Dunia Devi (widow), Bachcha Mahto, Ramayan Mahto, Dukhaharan Mahto, Sukhari Mahto, Manoj Mahto, managed to escape from the spot.
West Champaran SP Jayant Kant said that all the illegal distilleries and equipment being used for  manufacturing liquor were destroyed and over 40 litres of countrymade liquor and 1,000 kg of jaggery was seized by police. The SP said that during the raids, the police team led by ASP (operations) Sheokumar Rai and SDPO, Bettiah, Pankaj kumar Rawat also seized 38 stolen motorbikes, two Bolero, one Scorpio and an Indica car from the villages.The vehicles owners are being searched to verify the stolen vehicles.
The hunt for kingpin of vehicle lifters’ gang and other accused involved in running liquor manufacturing units was on, the SP added. Several locals demanded action the cops posted in the area too in this connection.
