Pliskova, Halep & Svitolina advance to 3rd round of Cincinati Open

Patna : World No 4 and reigning Wimbledon Champion Simona Halep, 27, Romania, and World No 7 Elina Svitolina, 24, Ukraine, advanced to third round of Cincinati Open, a WTA Premier event, at Ohio, USA, on August 14, 2019, evening.

Simona Halep edged past World No 43 Ekaterina Alexandrova, 24, Russia, in a three-set thriller 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 in second round coming from behind. Alexandrova though fired 12 Aces in the match to just 2 by Halep. But, she also committed 8 double faults to 2 by the Romanian. Both the players won 4 break points each in the match. The Russian won 4 games in a row in the match to 3 by Halep. The Romanian, however, won 60 service points to 55 by the Russian.

Svitolina beat World N0 23  Elise Mertens, 23, Belgium, 6-4, 6-1 in the second round. Svitolina fired 6 Aces in the match to 2 by Mertens. Svitolina also won 4 break points in the match to none by Mertens. Svitolina also won 6 games in a row in the match.

World No 3 Karolina Pliskova, 27, Czech Republic, swept past World N0 52 Wang Yafan, 25, China, 6-1, 6-3 in second round to enter 3rd round. Pliskova won 5 break points to 1 by Yafan.
