Patna SSP orders for lodging FIR against SI after death of house owner

Patna: Taking serious note of the alleged inhuman behaviour of a sub-inspector (SI) rank officer of Bahadurpur police station that resulted in  death of a 58 year old man, Patna Senior SP (SSP) Manu Maharasj on December 8 ordered for lodging an FIR against the SI and the police team of the police station.

A Bahadurpur police team led by SI Devkant Verma had gone to the house of Diwakar Prasad, owner of Smiriti Paper Mill at Deedarganj in Patna City, at Pancahwati Colony December 7 night for carrying out a raid there as some copies of Bihar School 0Examination Board was recovered from the mill earlier when the state was rocked due to merit scam. Later, Diwakar’s family members found him thrown outside the house from the third floor. An injured Diwakar was rushed to Rajeshwar Nursing Home but he died midway.

Diwakar’s son Bikram Kumar said that when the police team reached his house, all the family members were present there. He said that the SI took his father to the third floor of the house and then they suddenly left the house. Diwakar said that when the family members reached the third floor they found the belongings scattered. He alleged that the SI along with his police team had thrown his father from the third floor that proved fatal for him. The son on Thursday met SSP and narrated the whole story to him.

Patna SSP manu Maharaj said that he has ordered for registering an FIR against the police team with Bahadurpur police station. He said that police have procured the footage of CCTV camera there. The body was sent for autopsy and action would be taken against the police team if the allegations are found true, he added.
