Patna : A passenger Veer Bahadur Singh, 72, died at Patna Railway Junction, platform number 1, when a partition wall of a toilet block in 2nd class non-AC waiting hall fell on him in the wee hours of August 7, 2018.

Veer Bahadur Singh, a retired policeman, was a native of Bidupur in Vaishali district. He had arrived at Patna junction by Jan Shatabdi express from Kolkata at 11:30 pm on August 6, 2018, and was due boarding another train in the morning of August 8, 2018, said Superintendent of Railway Police (SRP), Patna. The deceased reportedly went for toilet at around 3 am on lavatory premises, which was under upgradation. It lavatory has three toilet blocks joined together. However, the partition wall fell on Veer Bahadur injuring him seriously. GRP, Patna, Patna Junction rushed to the spot and admitted him to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), where he was declared brought dead.

Flooring and renovation work was on in the area and a small notice saying “work in progress” was put outside for everyone’s knowledge, said CPRO, ECR, Rajesh Kumar. The construction work was going on under the supervision of a Junior Engineer Ashok Kumar, who has been suspended for negligence in duty, the CPRO said. The ECR has given an ex gratia of Rs 15,000 to the next of kin of the deceased.
