Osaka, Halep, Barty reach QFs of Madrid Open

Patna : World No 1 player in WTA rankings Naomi Osaka, Japan, and World No 3 Simona Halep, Romania, and World No 8 Sloane Stephens, USA, entered the quarter-finals of Madrid Open, Spain, on May 8, 2019.

To seed Osaka, 20, beat World No 33 Aliaksandra Sasnovich, 25, Belarus, 6-2, 6-3 in the Round of 16 on May 8, 2019. Osaka fired 9 Aces in the match to none by Sasnovich. She broke Sasnovich’s service 4 times while the latter broke her service once. Osaka, the winne of 2 Grand Slam singles title, also won 4 games in a row in the match. Osaka will face World No 18 Belinda Bencic, Switzerland,  in the quarter-finals on May 9, 2019. Bencic beat World No 85 Kateryna Kozlova, 25, Ukraine, 6-0, 6-2 in the Round of 16.

Halep crushed  World No 46 Viktoria Kuzmova,  20, Slovak Republic, 6-0, 6-0 in 44 minutes in the Round of 16. Halep broke Kuzmova’s service 6 times in the match besides winni ng 12 games in a row. She will face World No 9 Ashleigh Barty, 23, Australia, in the quarter-finals on May 9.

Stephens beat World No 49 Zheng Saisai, 25, China, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the Round of 16. Stephens won 5 break points to 3 by Saisai. Both the players won 4 games each in a row in the match.
