Patna : Reigning Olympic Champion and three-time former World Champion Carolina Marin, 26, Spain, entered the women’s singles semi-finals of Victor China Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1,000 badminton tournament, at Changzhou, China, on September 20, 2019.

World No 24 Carolina beat World No 7 He Bing Jiao, 22, China, the 7th seed, in a tough three-game contest 11-21, 21-14, 21-15 coming from behind in 58 minutes in the quarter-finals at Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, Changzhou, China, on September 20. Carolina won 53 rallies in the match to 50 by Bing Jiao. The Spaniard won 5 consecutive points in the match to 7 by the Chinese.

Carolina now leads Bing Jiao 5-1 Head to Head. Carolina had won World Championships title in 2014, 2015, and 2018. Carolina has returned after a long injury lay off due to which her BWF rankings has slipped to World No 24. She will face World No 16 Sayaka Takahashi, Japan, in the SFs on September 21, 2019. Takahashi beat World No 6 Ratchanok Intanon, Thailand, 14-21, 21-14, 22-20 in the QFs in 60 minutes on September 20.
