Ara : Hundreds of activists of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) led by their National President Neeraj Kundan and State President Gunjan Patel took out Protest March from Shaheed Bhawan on August 19, 2019, to protest attack on two persons including Bhojpur district NSUI President Manish Singh alias Duldul on August 18, 2019, near Bhojpur District Magistrate’s residence under Nawada police station, Ara.
The Protest March passed through the main thoroughfares of Ara town and culminated at the gate of the office of Bhojpur District Magistrate. The NSUI activists were raising slogans against the officials of the Bhojpur district administration and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and were demanding immediate arrest of the miscreants. They also forced the closure of schools, colleges, and coaching institutions. They, however, did not disturb 3rd semester PG examinations at three examination centres.
Neeraj Kundan and Gunjan Patel said that motorcycle borne armed miscreants shot at and injured Bhojpur district NSUI President Manish Singh alias Duldul and his friend Appu Singh near Bhojpur DM residence when they were going to Nawada police station to receive a copy of his application. They said that Manish Singh suspected attack on his life and so he had given an application to Nawada police station demanding security for himself but police remained inactive. They said that had the police acted on the application of Manish Singh and provided security coverage to him, no one would have dared fire at him.
SHO, Nawada police station, Lallan Kumar said that Manish Singh had given an application regarding his security but later he himself requested not to take any action on it. He also denied that the miscreants shot at and injured the two persons when they were on way to Nawada police station and added that a grill shop owner had called Manish Singh on mobile near Bhojpur DM’s residence and when he along with his friend Appu Singh proceeded after having a dialogue with him, the miscreants shot at them injuring both of them. He said that the police are investigating the matter and would crack the case.
