Patna : Although Bihar CM Nitish Kumar rubbished the political significance being attached to his meeting with PM Narendra Modi in Delhi on May 27, 2017, saying he did not meet him as the JD(U) national president, it has triggered speculation that he was coming closer to the BJP.

Nitish said that it was a usual meeting between the prime minister and a chief minister but the timing of the meeting has raised eyebrows as only on May 26, 2017, the Bihar CM had skipped a luncheon meeting hosted by AICC president Sonia Gandhi for opposition party leaders in Delhi. It may be mentioned here that Nitish Kumar had a few years back cancelled a dinner he had thrown to the top BJP leaders attending a party meet at Patna due his differences with PM Modi.

Sources said that Nitish wants to distance himself with RJD Chief Lalu Prasad in the wake of controversy surrounding him and his family members over land deals. Nitish has clearly given hint to the RJD that it could not take him for granted and he can always chart out a separate political path.

Nitish met Modi after attending a lunch hosted by him in honour of his Mauritius PM Pravind Jugnauth in Delhi on May 27. Nitish discussed the sedimentation of river Ganga with the PM.
