Patna : JD(U) national president Nitish Kumar, with the support of NDA,  took oath as Bihar chief minister for the sixh time on July 27, 2017, morning, about 15 hours after he resigned from the post ending his almost two year old alliance with the RJD an Congress. BJPLP leader Sushil Kumar Modi was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister getting his old post back. Other ministers will take oath after Nitish wins trust vote on July 28, 2017. Governor K N Tripathi has asked Nitish Kumar to prove his majority in Bihar Assembly within two days.

PM Narendra Modi on July 27 today congratulated Nitish Kumar and Sushil Kumar Modi (SuMo)on being sworn in as the chief minister and the deputy chief minister respectively and said he looked forward to working together for Bihar’s prosperity. “Congratulations to @NitishKumar ji & @SushilModi ji. Looking forward to working together for Bihar’s progress & prosperity,” the PM tweeted. Nitish Kumar and Sushil Modi were administered the oath of office by Governor Tripathi at the Raj Bhawan in Patna on July 27 at 10 am.

According to a Raj Bhavan release, Nitish Kumar met the governor on late July 26 night and handed him over a list of 131 MLAs supporting him. The MLAs belong to JD(U), BJP, HAM (S), RLSP, LJP besides two Independents. Earlier, the BJP had handed over a letter of NDA support to Nitish to the governor at 10 pm on July 26 at Raj Bhavan,

The JD(U) had walked out of the NDA in July 2013, ending its 17-year-old alliance with the BJP, after Narendra Modi was nominated head of the BJP’s campaign committee for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
