Munger: Bihar CM Nitish Kumar while addressing more than 8,000 Jeevika workers and Self help Groups (SHGs) from six districts of  Munger division hinted at a threat on his life allegedly from liquor barons to damage the efforts of the state government through their hidden agenda including false propaganda.
Nitish said,” Jindgi Rahe ya nahin Rahe, main sharabbandi par har halat mein data Rahunga.”(I dont care whether I remain alive or not, but I shall be firm on liquor ban till my life). He quoted the Indian constitution and said that the propaaganda that he was trampling on the  fundamental rights of the people to drink liquor was a false to divert people’s attention from the task he had taken up.
Nitish  also rebutted the allegations of the opposition that crime has increased creating an atmosphere of fear and insecurity among the people by  citing some crime figures. He said that crime figure had gone down in the state after introduction of prohibition in the state since April 5. He said there was a decline in cases of murders by 39%, 54 %  decline in cases of dacoities, 25  % in cases of robberies, 73 % decline in cases of abduction for ransom, 38 % in cases of atrocities against women and 37 % in cases of road accidents within one month compared to corresponding month in 2015.
The CM said that the introduction of prohibition in the state has taken a shape of big campaign and the Jeevika sisters were spreading this campaign to other regions and added that they were getting  good support from the people.
A few selected Jeevika sisters narrated their experiences of life in the society within a short period of one and half month after the enforcement of total prohibition in the state . A few songs based on the prohibition by the workers of the District Sakchharta Samiti, Munger, were appreciated by the audience.
Nitish said that he had implemented the promise which he had made before the Jeevika sisters  about three years back when he was here.”  When I sat down after addreessing a meeting, a few sisters were heard  saying something.I got up from my seat and again went to the dais and holding the mike asked them to explain what they were saying.
When they urged me to ban use  and sale of liquor  explaining the sharp increase in domestic violence against the women folks, I had  promised to bring strong legislation when I come to power next time. Fortunately,I came to power again and  decided to make my promise a reality. “
