Patna : JD (U) president and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar on March 1, 2017, disapproved the “uncharitable” remarks of his cabinet colleague and Excise minister Abdul Jalil Mastan, a Congress MLA from Amour in Purnia district in North Bihar, against PM Narendra Modi.
Nitish said, ” It is absolutely wrong on the part of the minister to make uncharitable comments against the PM.” Mastan at a public meeting at Purnia had asked his supporters to throw shoes on PM’s photos. Deputy leader of JD(U) legislature party Shyam Rajak and party spokesman Neeraj Kumar also condemned the comments of minister and advised him to express regrets for his comments. Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee president and education minister Ashok Chaudhury also condemned minister’s comments and asked him to apologise. Assembly speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhury too regretted minister’s remarks and said it was condemnable.

Opposition BJP members did not allow the question hour to run in Bihar assembly till the minister apologised for his anti-PM comments. Bihar assembly Speaker Vijay Kumar Chaudhury made repeated appeals to the BJP members to allow normal functioning of the House but opposition members did not oblige. Later, the minister appeared in the House and apologised for his comments against the Prime Minister.
In the Bihar legislative council too, normal business during the question hour could not take place due to protests by the opposition members and Council Chairman Awadesh Narain Singh had to adjourn the House till lunch recess(2.30pm).
