Gopalganj: In a shocking act of cruelty, a two year old girl Chati Kumari was snatched from the lap of her mother by a neighbour and thrown into a heap of fire at village Gamhariya under Jadopur police station on January 10 morning. The girl sustained serious burn injuries and battling for her life at Gopalganj Sadar Hospital. The girl’s parents were also mercilessly beaten.
Eyewitnesses said that Soni Yadav, niece of Ashok Yadav of Gamhariya village, was playing at the door of Deonath Yadav around 7 am. Munni Devi and Chandrawati Devi, both wives of Deonath Yadav, tried to chase Soni.
Ashok’s wife Poonam Devi, with her two year old daughter Chati Kumari in her lap, reached there and tried to save her niece. The women had a heated argument between them. This infuriated Deonath Yadav, who reached there, and snatched the two year old girl from the lap of her mother and threw her into a heap of fire nearby.
Shocked over the incident, some of the villagers pulled out Chati from the fire. Poonam was also mercilessly beaten there and both of them were admitted to Sadar Hospital. An FIR had been lodged against Deonath Yadav and his two wives Munni Devi and Chandrawati Devi on the statement of Poonam Devi. Raids were on to arrest them, police said.
