Aurangabad: Suspected Maoists torched a mobile tower at village Barheta under Deo police station in Aurangabad district late August 30 night during the 24 hour bandh call given by CPI (Maoists). Maoists numbering around 25 reached the tower and manhandled the security guards there and then set ablaze battery and other equipments of mobile tower and escaped from there shouting “Lal salam Jindabad, Mawowadi Jindabad.”
Sadar SDPO P N Sahu said that the Maoists torched mobile tower to disrupt telecommunication services in naxal infested areas of the district. He said that soon after the incident, anti- naxal operations were intensified across the district and raids were being carried out to nab those involved in the crime.
Meanwhile, normal life remained paralyzed in Aurangabad as banned CPI (Maoists) have given a 24 hour bandh to protest police atrocities. Plying of inter-state buses were affected while many banks also remained closed under several blocks of the district and attendance was low at government offices under Deo, Nabinagar, Kutumba, Goh, Rafiganj and Madanpur blocks of the district. The bandh call also affected business activities in many blocks. A local businessman from Deo said they have no option than to keep their shutters down.
However, to prevent any untoward incident, police patrolling has been intensified across the district particularly on NH-2.
