Patna : World No 2 Rafael Nadal, 33, Spain, won the French Open title for the record extending 12th time on June 9, 2019, night, beating World No 4 Dominic Thiem, 25, Austria, in the final for the second consecutive year. Defending champion  Nadal beat Thiem, who had defeated him in the semi-finals of Barcelona Open in April 2019, in four-sets 6-2, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 at Roland Garros, Paris, France, the final to win his 18th Grand Slam singles title, still two behind Roger Federer’s 20 Grand Slam singles title. Nadal now leads Thiem 13-4 Head to Head.

Nadal on June 9 , 2019, broke Thiem’s service 7 times in the match- twice in first set, thrice in 3rd set, and twice in 4th set. Thiem broke Nadal’s service only twice- once in first set and once in 2nd set. Nadal won 5 games in a row in the match to 2 by Thiem. Nadal’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve ( 73 % 7 64 %) was much higher than that of Thiem ( 58 % & 52 %). Thirem though fired 7 Aces in the match to just 3 by Nadal. Nadal won 75 service points to 51 by Thiem, who had defeated World No 1 Novak Djokovic, Serbia, in the semi-finals on June 8, 2019.

Nadal had defeated Thiem in straight sets 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 in 2018 French Open final.
