Nadal, Monfils, Schwartzman & Berrettini enter QFs of US Open

Patna : World No 2 and three-time champion Rafael Nadal, 33, Spain, beat World No 23 and 2014 champion Marin Cilic, 30, Croatia, in a tough four-set contest in Round of 16 at Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York City, USA, on September 3, 2019, early morning, to enter the quarter-finals of the tournament for the 9th time. World No 13 Gael Monfils, 32, France, beat World No 70 Pablo Andujar, 33, Spain, to advance to the quarter-finals of US Open.

Second seed Nadal beat 22nd seed Cilic 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in Round of 16. Nadal fired 11 Aces in the match to 10 by Cilic. The Spaniard won 6 break points in the match to 2 by the Croatian. Nadal committed 6 double faults in the match to 5 by the Croatian. Nadal won 12 of the last 15 games.

Nadal’s winning percentage on his first serve ( 82%) was much higher than that of Cilic (58%). But, the winning percentage of both the players on their second serve was equal (55%). Nadal also won 9 games in a row in the match to 3 by the Croatian. Nadal now leads Cilic 7-2 Head to Head.

Nadal will face World No 21 Diego Schwartzman, 27, Argentina, in QFs on September 4, 2019. Schwartzman beat World No 6 Alexander Zverev, 22, Germany, in a tough four-set contest 3-6, 6-2, 6-4, 6-3 in Round of 16 at Arthur Ashe Stadium on September 2, 2019, late night. Zverev though fired 11 Aces in the match to none by the Argentine. Schwartzman won 8 break points in the match to 5 by Zverev. He also won 6 games in a row to 5 by Zverev. The German committed 16 double faults in the match to just 1 by Schwartzman.

Monfils crushed Andujar at Louis Armstrng Stadium  6-1, 6-2, 6-2 winning six break points besides winning 7 games in a row in Round of 16. Monfils fired 8 Aces in the match to 1 by Andujar. Monfils won 49 service points to 31 by the Spaniard.

Monfils will face World No 25 Matteo Berrettini, 23, Italy, in QFs on September 4. Berrettini beat World No 43 Andrey Rublev, 21, Russia, 6-1, 6-4, 7-6 in Round of 16 on September 2 late night.
