Bianca & Mertens enter US Open QFs

Patna :  World No 15 Bianca Andreescu, 19, Canada, and World No 26 Elise Mertens, 23, Belgium, entered the women’s singles quarter-finals of US Open at Newy York City, USA, on September 3, 2019, early morning.

Bianca, who had recently won Rogers Cup title, beat World No 117 Taylor Townsend, 23, USA, in a three-set contest at Arthur Ashe Stadium, New York City, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 in Round of 16. She won 6 break points in the match to 3 by Townsend. Bianca won 4 games in a row in the match to 3 by Townsend, who had defeated World No 4 and reigning Wimbledon champion Simona Halep, Romania, in second round on August 30, 2019. Bianca fired 5 Aces in the match to 4 by Townsend.

Mertens, on the other hand, demolished World No 141 Kristie Ahn, USA, 6-1, 6-1 in Round of 16 at Louis Armstrong Stadium winning 5 match points in the match besides winning 5 games in a row. Mertens won 31 service points to 18 by Ahn, who had upset 2017 French Open Champion Jelena Ostapenko, Latvia,  in 3rd round on August 31, 2019. Mertens will face Bianca in QFs on September 4, 2019.
