Patna : World No 1 in ATP rankings Rafael Nadal, 32, Spain, defeated giant killer Stefanos Tsitsipas, 20, Greece, in straight sets in the final of Rogers Cup, Toronto, Canada, on August 13, 2018, to win his 33rd ATP Masters 1,000 title. This was Nadal’s 80th career title. Nadal had lost in Round of 16 of the tournament in 2017.

Nadal beat Tsitsipas 6-2, 7-6 in the final to win Rogers Cup, an ATP Masters 1,000 event, for the fourth time consolidating his World No 1 position.

Nadal fired 4 Aces in the match to 3 by Tsitsipas. But, he also committed 2 double faults in the match to none by Tsitsipas. Nadal also won 5 games in a row. He won 3 break points while Tsitsipas won just 1.

Nadal’s winning percentage on both his first and serve was much better than that of his rival, who had beaten 4 top ten players including Wimbledon Champion Novak Djokovic, 31, Serbia, Wimbledon runners up Kevin Anderson, 32, South Africa, World No 4 Alexander Zverev, 21, and World No 8 Dominic Thiem, 24, Austria.

Before the final match, Nadal had described Tsitsipas as a complete player with great forehand and backhand shots. Nadal had also beaten Tsitsipas in the final of ATP Barcelona Open in 2018.
