Muzaffarpur : Upset over repeated extortion demand of Rs 5 lakh from criminals, a Muzaffarpur trader dealing in crackers Mehmood Alam, 40, committed suicide at his Chhatapur residence under Town police station, Muzaffarpur, at 9 pm on May 18, 2017. Alam committed suicide on the third floor of his house by hanging himself from the ceiling.

Muzaffarpur SSP Vivek Kumar said that police were probing into the circumstances leading to Alam’s suicide. A DSP is investigating into the matter. The family members of Alam said that criminals had been demanding Rs 5 lakh from him for the last four days. Alam had complained to Town police station in this connection but the SHO did not take cognisance of it forcing him to move the SSP but to no avail.
