Patna : World No 1 Kento Momota, Japan, beat World No 2 Shi Yuqi, China, in a tough three-game contest in the final to lift the men’s singles title at Badminton Asia Championships 2019 at Wuhan, China, on April 28, 2019. Momota beat 2nd seed Yuqi 12-21, 21-18, 21-8 in 70 minutes in the final at Wuhan Sports Center, China.
Reigning World Champion and top seed Momota won 54 rallies in the match to 47 by Yuqi. He won 6 consecutive points in e match 8 by Yuqi. Momota now leads Yuqi 4-1 head to head. The winner gets 9,200 points while the runners-up gets 7,800 points.
In the women’s section, World No 4 Akane Yamaguchi, Japan, beat World No 7 HE Bingjiao, China, to win the women’s singles title. Third seed Yamaguchi beat 5th seed Bingjiao 21-19, 21-9 in 42 minutes in the final on April 28. Yamaguchi won 42 rallies in the match to 28 by Bingjiao. She also won 11 consecutive points to 4 Bingjiao. Yamaguchi now leads Bingjiao 9-2 head to head.
