Mentally unsound woman arrested with 3 live bombs in Muzaffarpur

Muzaffarpur : Police arrested a mentally unsound woman Shanti Devi, 55, with three live bombs from village Bhataulia under Paroo police station in Muzaffarpur district on June 27, 2017. Muzaffarpur SSP Vivek Kumar confirmed that a woman carrying bombs had been arrested under Paroo police station. Bhataulia is over 50 km from Muzafarpur town.

SHO, Paroo police station, Kesrichand, said Shanti Devi, a widow from village Jasouli under Kathaiya police station in Muzaffarpur district, is mentally unsound and is under treatment of a Sonepur (Saran) doctor. She had left her home a few days back and had reached village Lalu Chhapra under Paroo police station and had slept outside the door of local Mukhiya’s house in the night on June 26.

On June 27, the house inmates saw her and removed her from there after which she strayed into village Bhataulia and accidentally picked up a bag lying on the road there containing three live bomb, the SHO said. Being mentally unsoundand, Shanti took one bomb out of the bag and exploded it, he said adding the explosion of bomb created panic among villagers who caught her and informed police.

The SHO reached the village with force and brought the woman over to Paroo police station. She will be taken to Muzaffarpur Sadar hospital on June 28 for medical examination to ascertain whether she was really mad as claimed by her son. SHO Kesrichand said that Shanti Devi’s son also showed the prescription of the doctor treating her.

The SHO, however, maintained that although she appears to be mentally unsound, she gave correct names of her son and late husband after which police contacted her son, who said that his mother had left home on few occasions in the past too.

The SHO said that police were investigating as to how the bag containing bomb reached Bhataulia. He said presence of some ultras at the village could not be ruled out as in 2016 some naxalites were arrested from there.
