Medvedev crushes Zverev to win Rolex Shanghai Masters title

Patna : World No 4 and 3rd seed Daniil Medvedev, 23, Russia, demolished 5th seed Alexander Zverev, 22, Germany, in final to win the Rolex Shanghai Masters 1,000 title at Shanghai, China, on October 13, 2019, his second ATP Masters title this year after the Cincinnati Masters title couple of months back.

Playing his 6th straight ATP tour final and 9th overall in 2019, Medvedev brushed aside World No 6 Zverev 6-4, 6-1 in the final in just 73 minutes breaking the latter’s service twice each in both the sets to win his 4th ATP title in 2019. Zverev could break Medvedev’s service just once in first set. The German virtually capitulated in the second set even as he was leading Medvedev 4-0 Head to Head. Zverev though still leads the Russian 4-1.

Medvedev’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve ( 85% & 45%) was much higher than that of Zverev ( 65% & 29 %). The Russian won 7 games in a row in the match to 3 by the German, who had stunned 2nd seed Roger Federer, Switzerland, in the QFs. Zverev fired 7 Aces in the match to 4 by the Russian. Medvedev though won 38 service points to 24 by the German.
