Patna : World No 8 and 9th seed Daniil Medvedev, 23, Russia, won his first ATP Masters 1,000 title when he beat World No 19 David Goffin, 28, Belgium, in the final to lift the Cincinnati Masters title at Ohio, USA, August 19, 2019, early morning. Medvedev beat Goffin, the 16th seed, in straight sets 7-6, 6-4 in 1hr 39 minutes in the final to clinch the title. Medvedev had stunned World No1 Novak Djokovic in the semi-finals. With this win, Medvedev has jumped to World No 5 position in ATP rankings.
The Russian had lost to World No 2 Rafael Nadal, Spain, in the final of Rogers Cup, also an ATP Masters 1,000 tournament at Montreal, Canada, 9 days back. Goffin was playing his first ATP Masters final.
Medvedev fired 10 Aces in the match to 5 by Goffin. He won 2 break points in the match to 1 by Goffin. Goffin committed 7 double faults in the match to 1 by the Russian. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. Both of them also won 44 service points each in the match. But, Medvedev’s winning percentage on both his first and second serve ( 90 % & 64 %) was much higher than that of Goffin ( 69% & 52 %). Medvedev now leads Goffin 2-1 Head to Head.
