Patna : Reigning Olympic Champion and a three-time former World Champion Carolina Marin, 26, Spain, beat World No 40 Phittayaporn Chaiwan, 18, Thailand, in straight games to lift the women’s singles title at Ecogreen Syed Modi International Badminton Championships, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 300 event, at Lucknow, UP, India, her second title this year, on December 1, 2019. It was her 30th career title. Marin secured 7,000 BWF rankings points plus the prize money.
Fourth seed Marin, who had won World Championships title in 2014, 2015, and 2018, beat Chaiwan in straight games 21-12, 21-16 in 40 minutes at Babu Banarasi Das Indoor Stadium, Lucknow. World No 18 Marin won 42 rallies in thematch to 28 by Chaiwan. She won 7 consecutive points in the match to 4 by the Chaiwan. It was first meeting between the two players. Chaiwan was leading in the second game till half-way through but thereafter Marin dominated the proceedings. Chaiwan secured 5,950 BWF rankings points plus the prize money.
