Gopalganj: Even as the Gopalganj police were conducting raids in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh to arrest the mastermind of Khajurbanni liquor tragedy, Grahan Pasi, the mastermind, reached the Civil Court premises disguised on Friday and surrendered before the court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Ram Awadh Prasad taking the cops by surprise.

It may be mentioned here that over 19 persons had died while several others had lost their eyesights after consuming liquor at village Khajurbanni on August 16-17 this year. The Town police station had lodged two separate FIRs in his connection. The district police had launched a massive manhunt to nab Grahan Pasi since August 19. Separate police teams had carried out raids in several areas of Uttar Pradesh and Siwan and East and West Champaran districts in Bihar to arrest him.

On Friday, Pasi surrendered before the CJM court through his lawyer Ved Prakash Tiwary. He pleaded before the court that he was innocent. The court later forwarded him to judicial custody.

A large number of people had assembled outside the Gopalganj Civil Court to have a look at Pasi, whose network is  next to Nagina Pasi, another accused in the case.  The district police have initiated steps to take Pasi on remand. Town police station SHO Santosh Kumar said that the police would take Pasi on remand and interrogate him.
