Patna: A woman Guria Devi was burnt alive allegedly by her in-laws at village Kiyakhap under Rafiganj police station in Aurangabad district in the wee hours on Friday. Police attributed the killing to dowry demands by the in-laws.
Police said that the deceased was a native of village Manpur under Muffasil police station in Gaya. She was married to Pravesh Kumar, a native of Mahua Saheed (Aurangabad) in 2006. The family had settled at Kiyakhap where they had some land.
The villagers said for the past few months Guria was being tortured by her in-laws who were demanding a bike besides ornaments and cash. Sources said that when the girl’s family members expressed their inability to fulfil the demands, her in-laws allegedly murdered her. Her father Mahesh Mehta alleged that he had given adequate dowry at the time of marriage yet they killed his daughter. An FIR was later lodged against 11 persons including the deceased’s husband with the Town police station based on the statement of Mehta. Incharge SHO, Town PS Aslam Ali said that raids were on to nab the accused.
