Patna : A final year English honours student coming to the college in “Night Club” dress on Friday forced the Magadh Mahila College (MMC) authorities to put a ban on jeans and T shirts wearing students’ entry into the college from August 16.
Over 5,000 girls studying in the oldest government girls college of Bihar will not be allowed to wear jeans, T shirts, leggings and carry mobiles on the college premises from Tuesday.

College principal Asha Singh took the unusual step following movement of a BA (English) final year student with pink transparent T shirt with `I Love You’ mark and half pant on the college premises on Friday The principal found the dress of the girl a Night Club dress. Her identity card was seized and  she was asked to bring her parents to the college .

.When hunt for similiar girls was launched, the college authorities found about two  dozen girls, all of final year in political science and commerce departments, wearing transparent vulgar dresses though they were  prescribed  unifoms of salwar-kurti and dupatta.The girls had put the uniform in their bags leading to suspicion among the teachers that they might have left their homes in uniforms and before entering college changed into obscene dresses.Their parents too have been summoned.

College principal put a notice on the office board warning students against wearing jeans, T shirts and any transparent vulgar dresses and asked to come to the college only in prescribed uniforms.Those violating the dress code would be penalised by Rs 1,000 for the first offence and face expulsion from the college for subsequent violation.

Magadh Mahila College,  set up as a constitutent unit of Patna University in 1946, imparts teachings in 32 degree and PG  courses in Atarts, Science, Commerce, Humanities, Management and Computer applications .Bihar government had declared it as the best college in Bihar in 2013.

Among the alumni of the college  are Goa Governor Mridula Sinha, judges of Patna High Court, top civil servants across the country and former ministers and MPs and legislators. Sharda Sinha, noted folk singer, and former Sukhda Pandey are also products of this premier girls college. Ramola Nandi occupied the office of VC of Patna University too.
