Patna : World No 36 in WTA rankings Lesia Tsurenko, Ukraine, stunned World No 2 and reigning Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki, Denmark, in the second round of US Open 2018 in a massive upset in the tournament.

Tsurenko beat 2nd seed Wozniacki 6-4, 6-2 to enter the third round on August 30, 2018, late night. Tsurenko committed 7 double faults in the match to 3 by Wozniacki. None of the two players served any Ace in the match. Tsurenko won 5 break points to 2 by Wozniacki.

World No 1 and top seed Simona Halep, Romania, had suffered shock defeat in the first round. World No 44 Kaia Kanepi, Estonia, had upset French Open champion Halep in the first round.

Maria Sharapova, Russia, beat World No 51 Sorona Cirstea, Romania, 6-2, 7-5 to enter the 3rd round of US Open. But, Sharapova committed 10 double faults in the match to 4 by Cirstea. But, she won 5 break points to 2 by Cirstea. Sharapova also fired 5 Aces to just 1 by Cirstea.

World No 10 Jelena Ostapenko, Latvia, beat World No 73 Taylor Townsend, USA, in three-sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to enter the third round. Ostapenko committed 15 double faults in the match to just 1 by Townsend.

World No 14 Madison Keys, USA, beat World No 92 Bernarda Pera, USA, 6-4, 6-1 to enter the 3rd round. Keys fired 8 Aces in the match to just 1 by Pera. Keys also won three break points.
