KXIP beat MI by 8 wickets in 9th match of IPL-12

Paytna : Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) defeated MI by 8 wickets in the 9th match of IPL-12 at Punjab Cricket Association I S Bindra Stadium, Mohali, on March 30, 2019, with openers Chris Gayle and Lokesh Rahul scoring 40 and 71 not out respectively. Mayank Agarwal scored 43 in 21 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. Chasing a target of 177, KXIP scored 177/2 in 18.4 overs only. MI bowlers including Jasprit Bumrah were very unimpressive in the death overs conceding too many fours. KXIP won the toss but opted to bowl.

Batting first, MI scored 176/7 in 20 overs with openers Rohit Sharma (captain) and Quinton de Kock scoring 32 and 60 runs respectively while allrounder Hardik Pandya scored 31. For KXIP, Mohd. Shami, Hardus Viljoen,and Murugan Ashwin took 2 wickets each while Andrew Tye took one wicket. MI’s middle collapsed again.

Set a target of 177, KXIP lost the wicket of opener Chris Gayle when the score was 53. Gayle fell to Krunal Pandya for 40 in 24 balls hitting 3 fours and 4 sixes. In came, Mayank Agarwal who too proved to be equally explosive. Agarwal fell to Krunal Pandya for 43 in 21 balls hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes. Lokesh Rahul remained unbeaten on 71 in 57 balls hitting 6 fours and a six. David Miller remained unbeaten on 15 in 10 balls hitting 2 fours. They added 60 runs for the 3rd wicket.
