Patna : World No 17 in WTA rankings Kiki Bertens, 26, Netherlands, stunned twice Wimbledon Champion and World No 6 Petra Kvitova, Czech Repulic, in the semi-finals of Cincinnati Masters 1,000 at Mason, Cincinnati, Ohio, USA, on August 18, 2018, late night, to enter the final of the hard court tournament.

Bertens beat Kvitova 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in a big upset in the semi-finals. Bertens had defeated World No 7 Elina Svitolina, Ukraine, in the quarters-finals. Bertens fired 10 Aces in the match to just 1 by Kvitova.  Kvitova committed 8 double faults while Bertens committed 7 double faults in the match. Bertens won 7 break points to 5 by Kvitova.

World No 1 Simona Halep, Romania, will play World No 34 Aryna Sabalenka, 20, Belarus, in the second semi-finals on August 19, 2018.
