Patna : World No 14 Kidambi Srikanth, 27, India, entered the 2nd found of Yonex Thailand Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1,000 Badminton tournament, at Bangkok, Thailand, on January 13, 2021, defeating World No 26 Sourabh Verma, 28, India. Srikanth beat Verma  in straight games 21-12, 21-11 in 31 minutes in first round.

Srikanth won 42 rallies in the match to 23 by Sourabh. He also won 10 consecutive points in the match to 5 by Sourabh. Srikanth now leads Sourabh 3-0 Head to Head.

But, H S Pranoy, Parupalli Kashyap, and Sameer Verma, younger brother of Sourabh Verma, lost in the first round on January 13, 2021. Pranoy lost to 8th seed Lee Jii Jia, Malaysia, 21-13, 14-21, 8-21 in first round. Kashyap lost to Jason Anthony Ho-Shue, Canada. Sameer Verma lost to World No 18 Shesar Hiren Rhustavito, 26, Indonesia,  15-21, 17-21.
