Khachanov, Verdasco reach 3rd round of Wimbledon Championships

Patna : World No 9 Karen Khachanov, 23, Russia, and World No 37 Fernando Verdasco, 35, Spain, reached the third round of Wimbledon Championships at Lon Don, UK, on July 3, 2019.

Tenth seed Khachanov beat World N0 54 Feliciano Lopez, 37, Spain, in four-sets 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4 in the second round.  Lopez though fired 18 Aces in the match to 10 by Khachanov. Both the players committed 8 double faults each. Khachanow, however, won 4 break points to 2 by Lopez. Both the players won 3 games in a row in the match. Lopez had reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon in 2005, 2008, and 2011.

Khachanov, who had reached 4th round of Wimbledon in 2018 and WFs of French Open in 2019,  will face World No 22 Roberto Bautista Agut, Spain, in the 3rd round.

Verdasco beat World No 30 Kyle Edmund, UK, in five-sets 4-6, 4-6, 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the 2nd round. The Spaniard fired 16 Aces in the match to 5 by Edmund. But, Verdasco also committed 10 double faults to 4 by Edmund. Both the players won 6 break points each in the match. Verdasco won 99 service points to 95 by Edmund.
