Patna : World No Kento Momota, Japan, and World No Shi Yuqi, China, advanced to the semi-finals of Badminton Asia Championships 2019 at Wuhan, China, on April 26, 2019.
Top seed Momota beat World No 19 Lu Guangzu, 22, China, in a three-game thriller 16-21, 21-11, 21-14 in 69 minutes in the quarter-finals coming back from behind. Momota won 58 rallies in the match to 46 by Guangzu. He also won 8 consecutive points in the match to 6 by Guangzu. This was first meeting between the two players.
She Yuqi, 2, China, beat World No 15 Sameer Verma, 24, India, 21-10, 21-12 in 36 minutes in the quarter-finals. Yuqi won 42 rallies in the match to 22 by Sameer Verma. Yuqi also won 10 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Sameer. Yuqi now leads Sameer 5-1 head to head.
World No 5 Chou Tien Chen, 29, Taiwan, also entered the DSFs of the tournament beating World No 10 Kanta Nishimoto, 24, Japan, 22-20-, 24-26, 21-15 in 80 minutes in the QFs.
